Encompassing 55 square miles, the city borders the south shore of Clear Lake and extends westward toward the city of Friendswood. Originally a farming area, League City has matured from a small community into a large residential area complete with a unique blend of high-tech aerospace and petrochemical companies. It is estimated that since the 2000 census the population in League City has grown over 35% estimating the current population at 61,393.
