Ryson Real Estate was evacuated for Hurricane Ike and all of our properties were locked down before landfall. We will be striving to come online as quickly as possible. We have had reports that our office survived the storm as will as many of our vacation rental properties. We will be working on getting info to our owners as soon as we can. We will also be working toward being open to get our units ready for evacuees who need temporary housing, volunteers, and contractors. We may need to use generators to run or office for up to 4 weeks, or we will office out of Ryan’s house. Our staff is scattered across Texas and we will be working on getting them back as well. We wish everyone the best of luck and are praying for you all. We are here for Galveston and will do what we can to manage properties to the best of our ability. We will also be a source for information, contractors, and housing. We will be here for all of your real estate services. Phone systems should be up by Monday and we will be updating this article so please bookmark it and check back often.

We just saw the first aerial shots of Galveston and west Galveston. It looks much better than feared. Most all the homes on the west end survived. There is a lot of damage and sand erosion… but it could have been worse. The storm surge did most of the damage, but sunny beach looks ok, Spanish grant had a few destroyed homes, pirates beach looks great except for beachfront homes, Jamaica beach took a lot of damage including some lost homes, Indian beach looks ok, Sandhill Shores did great, but lots of erosion and walkovers are gone, Sea Isle did ok, and as we get more info We will give it. Overall the water has receded and the roads look mostly clear.

I just got to see aerials of San Luis pass… including Pointe west and Playa San luis. The houses and condos look to be in good shape. There was lots of erosion and washout. Pirate’s beach looks to have many destroyed homes… in the ball park of 10-20 off foundations/destroyed. The sand-socks seem to have done a good job overall and probably saved some homes. The Riviera condos took a big hit and have lost all the beach and pool- down to the rock foundation. They may have structural issues. Looking at condos… I have seen seascapes, club of the isle, Maravilla, ocean grove, by the sea, breakers, palisade palms, Galvestonian, and a few others…all look to have survived structurally. Some did take some roof damage, and seascapes has lost its beach and pool area. The San Luis has lost some siding along with some of the other condos… but I can’t tell how much water /flood damage.

I tried to get back on the island today but was told by a Galveston police officer friend that we need to wait. We are close by in Dickinson waiting on the "all-clear" to get on the island and get back to work. We will check on all owners properties as soon as we can. We found this site to be VERY helpful:
http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/ike/IKE0000.HTM

this site is post-IKE pictures of Galveston... you can clearly see much of the damage and check on your house... Our house is still standing but looks to be crushed by our large oak tree.

We made it on the island at 5pm today. The island, I am happy to report, is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. The island is however heavily damaged in some places. Most of the condos and apartments on the island are ok. They did suffer some cosmetic damage but that's about it. The club of the isle, maravilla, by the sea, and ocean grove looked ok. Others had siding missing and erosion. Seascapes has had some damage and major erosion.
I am one very lucky person... Our house had NO shingle damage, NO flooding, and NO windows broke. Our fence was down, our lime tree was broken, and we did lose some large tree branches on our oak. Our office did suffer 2ft of flood damage, but we had everything off the ground. So, our office is ready to go we we can get back on the island. We look forward to helping our owners get pictures and damage assessments of their properties... we will be back on the island when we can. I will also post pictures when I can... but I do have limited internet right now. Good luck to everyone and keep us in your thoughts...
thanks

P.S. We will be getting our manager back tomorrow to start answering the phones and helping renters/owners
