Galveston County Real Estate
Information on Real Estate in Galveston CountyNovember 13, 2006
Texas’ 12th most populous county has an estimated 270,000 residents, with a growth rate of 6%. Galveston County neighbors the Johnson Space Center as well as the City of Houston, all of which are experiencing a rise in housing growth and a tourist boom. Tourism is not the only thing booming in the area, the economy has benefited tremendously from beachfront business and residential expansion. Over $100 million has been invested into the county jails, downtown building conversions, and school renovations. Employment opportunities are constantly surfacing with all of this expanding, renovating, and investing. Petrochemical manufacturing and refining, insurance, government and health care are the major industries next to tourism.
Nearly two million tourists are visiting the Bay Area each year. The Space Center Houston attracts nearly one million tourists per year and The Kemah Boardwalk is quickly becoming one of Texas’ top restaurant, entertainment, and general vacation spots. Nineteen marinas, with more than 7,000 boat slips, are hosted in the Bay Area. Ten percent off all sales in the Bay area are allotted to recreational boating making it the 3rd largest concentration of pleasure boats in the US.
Bay Area is made up of communities founded in the late 1800s like Friendswood, Kemah, League City, Pasadena, Seabrook and Webster. Some newer communities such as Nassau Bay and Taylor Lake Village developed as the Johnson Space Center expanded. The difference in the development of these communities, joined with the area's assortment of landscapes, has created a mini “melting pot” in the south. This diverse yet unique county creates a very exciting market for home buyers and well as realtors. Home sales prices accommodate buyers from under $100,000 into the millions.
If you were thinking about settling down in Galveston County, now would be the ideal time. Galveston County is implementing a community plan at this very moment. This plan is anticipated to re-evaluate the already outstanding public service and criminal justice systems. The following communities fall under the scope of this plan; Bayou Vista, Clear Lake Shores, Dickinson, Friendswood, Galveston, Hitchcock, Jamaica Beach, Kemah, La Marque, League City, Santa Fe, Texas City, and Tiki Island. However Alta Loma, Arcadia, Algoa, Bacliff, Bayview, Crystal Beach, Gilchrist High Island, Port Bolivar, and San Leon will not be incorporated.
